Scotch Apple Sour

Scotch Apple Sour

When you freeze apple cider as an ice cube, it slowly transforms your cocktail as it melts. Each sip tastes a bit more apple vibrant. It's a temptation to sip again or a reward to hold off for a few minutes to let it melt a little further. Either way is wonderful.

I'll be sharing a few more cocktails over the next week or two that use apple cider as an ice cube. The garnish for this cocktail is a bit lush, but a combination of flavors that pair well with the drink. Use any or all to swirl the cocktail after serving and help melt the frozen apple cider down into the myriad of beautiful fall flavors.

Scotch Apple Sour
makes 1 drink
2 ounces scotch
1 ounce lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon maple syrup
1 large or a few small ice cube(s) of frozen apple cider

Combine scotch, lemon juice and maple syrup with ice (not the apple cider ice, just good old fashioned frozen water) in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds, then strain into your favorite cocktail glass over your apple cider ice. For garnish, consider a sprig of rosemary, a stick of cinnamon, lemon peel, a slice of dried apple, or all of the above.
